More than 1,800 unaccompanied children arrived in Melilla in 2019 alone. The three reception centres in the border city are completely overwhelmed. These children are their families’ hope for the future, but in their new world they are totally stigmatised under the name of MENAS. While media and politicians frame them as delinquent children, they try to grow up in overcrowded shelters, with the dreams, insecurities and discoveries of any teenager.
